1、 What is fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP)?

Fiberglass reinforced plastic, also known as FRP or GFRP, is commonly referred to as fiberglass reinforced plastic. Fiberglass material is a reinforced plastic made of phenolic resin, epoxy resin or unsaturated polyester resin as the matrix, and glass fiber or its products as the reinforcing material, thus forming a high-performance composite material.

Fiberglass is different from tempered glass. Tempered glass belongs to safety glass, which is a reinforced version of glass with high impact strength, high bending strength, and scattered small particles in fragments. Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) is widely recognized in the market for its sun protection, durability, and other characteristics. Its products have a bright appearance, bright color, easy processing, and corrosion resistance, and are widely used as building materials, vehicle and vessel body materials, etc. Due to the fact that fiberglass does not block the passage of electromagnetic waves, using fiberglass to manufacture radar covers for airplanes and missiles is like putting a pair of protective goggles on weapons, which not only does not block the “line of sight” of incoming attacks, but also provides protection.

2、 Characteristics of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) material
(1) Strength and stiffness: Fiberglass has high tensile strength and stiffness, equivalent to steel, making it a lightweight but strong structural material.
(2) Lightweight: Fiberglass has a low density and is suitable as a lightweight material for applications that require reducing structural burden.
(3) Corrosion resistance: Fiberglass has excellent corrosion resistance and can resist the erosion of chemicals, water, and atmospheric conditions on the material.
(4) Insulation performance: Fiberglass is an electrical insulation material suitable for applications that require insulation performance.
(5) Design Freedom: Due to the flexibility of the manufacturing process, fiberglass can be made into various shapes and sizes, providing design freedom.
(6) Heat resistance: Fiberglass has good high temperature resistance and is suitable for applications in high-temperature environments.
(7) Transparency: Fiberglass can be designed as a transparent structure for applications that require transparency but also have strength.
